Judge were a straight edge hardcore band from New York City founded in 1987 as a side project to Youth Of Today. The band featured YOT's Porcell on guitar and YOT's one-time drummer Mike Judge on vocals. Legend has it that Mike Judge came up with idea for the band's debut 7" in a junk yard when Youth Of Today's tour van broke down on their Break Down The Walls tour in 1987. But regardless where it came from, Judge quickly became one of the most popular and important bands on the scene. They self-released their debut 7", New York Crew, in 1988 on Schism Records before they even had a band in place; the record was with Porcell playing bass and guitar and Mike singing and playing drums. But they quickly assembled a lineup: Sammy Siegler of YOT and Side By Side on drums, Jimmy Yu from Death Before Dishonor on bass, and Lars Weiss from Uppercut on second guitar. Jimmy was eventually replaced by Matt Pincus and they quickly followed up their 7" with a debut LP, Bringin' It Down. Their first attempt to record the album ended up with an aborted session that they released in limited quantities as Chung King Can Suck It which is still one of the most collectable records in all of hardcore. The eventual official release, though, was a remarkable record: tough and emotional and hard and poetic all in one with great design. The band released one more 7" before breaking up and then Mike Judge fell into obscurity for decades, save for his Neil Young rip off record. They have since reunited and play regularly with a revolving lineup. This original three-sided Judge long sleeve, in great condition, is from the band's 1989 album Bringin' It Down.
