Vintage The Velvet Underground "Loaded" T-Shirt

The Velvet Underground were a rock band from New York founded in 1964. The band was founded by Lou Reed and John Cale under various different names. They solidified the group after a year or so, adding Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker and settling on their final band name. It was around this same time that they were introduced to famous pop artist Andy Warhol who assumed the role of manager. They recorded their debut album, which featured the German singer Nico on Warhol's instance, and released it in 1967, simply titling it The Velvet Underground & Nico. The songs were psychedelic, which fit in with the time, but they were arty and challenging, odd and interesting. The record was not a commercial success, and the Underground went separate ways with Warhol and Nico. However, they continued on, producing their sophomore album White Light/White Heat shortly thereafter. Still met with commercial apathy, Reed replaced Cale with Doug Yule and they produced another album, a self-titled record that was released by MGM in 1969. As the 70s approached, the band scored a residency at the now-famous Max's Kansas City while they were recording their fourth album, what would become Loaded. Fed up with the state of the band, Reed quit the band as they were wrapping up recording. Doug Yule continued the band for one more record but they ultimately disbanded in 1972. After the break up, the band's output was reevaluated. They finally found their big break, sadly they just weren't a band anymore. Lou Reed went on to have a successful solo career, but it was the The Velvet Underground records that would ultimately be considered classics, despite their intentional dysfunction. They are now regarded as one of the most important American rock bands of all time. This vintage Velvet Underground shirt, in great condition with little to no signs of wear, is an original 70s shirt from the end of the band's career.
