In 1993, Van Halen was off their album cycle. They had released For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, their ninth album and third with Sammy Hagar which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts, in 1991 and had just been touring ever since, as they normally did. They released a live album, Live: Right Here, Right Now, in 93 but other than that they were just going about business as usual: playing amazing gig after amazing gig.
